  This special evening program for kids grades 3rd-5th (eight to 11 year olds) focuses on the inherited Jewish tradition of dialogue and debate. Over the course of a pizza dinner participants study a Jewish value - considering their personal stance and opinion. Through the dissection of Jewish text and commentary, kids become more informed, and are able to re-evaluate their opinion and relationship to that Jewish value. Considered one of our sacred youth spaces, Havdalah Club is a combination of fun, community, debate and learning all topped off with a Havdalah ritual to conclude each session. *Pizza dinner provided by Kavana.

  This program is offered as a series, as consistent participation helps build a sense of community among this cohort. As series participants, we assume we will see registrants each session, unless told otherwise.

  Program 
  Using stories, songs, discussion and projects, the monthly Prep & Practice program explores Jewish holidays and how to engage with them in personally meaningful ways. With a changing annual theme, families begin each session together then separate into smaller age-based groups for targeted learning and exploration (including a special parents/guardians group).

  Age Range: three to eight and accompanying adult/s.

  This program works best for children who are accustomed to 'drop-off' programs (such as day-care) due to the program format.

  We can cater to 3rd and 4th graders as well, who may be new to exploring their Jewish heritage and identity. 

  This program is offered as a series, as consistent participation helps build a sense of community among this cohort. As series participants, we assume we will see registrants each session, unless told otherwise.

  Registration How-To:
  During registration you will be able to register your entire family/group - all adults and children.

  Kavana's High School Program immerses 14 to 18 year olds in a wide array of Jewish-thought cultivation. From contemporary issues such as democracy and climate justice to historical Judaic themes - there are no off-limits topics for exploration. Using debate, theater, dialogue, and reflection, this intimate cohort of young adults builds community, nourishes relationships, and is never afraid to get silly. *Dinner provided by Kavana.

  Program runs 5:30 - 7:45 pm, one Sunday a month (dates listed below).

  Using singing, art crafting, and stories, the monthly Shabbat TinkerGan program explores Jewish identity through Shabbat and other relevant themes. This program aims to set strong foundations in Jewish friendship, family, ritual and joy!

  Age Range: three to five and accompanying adult/s.

Using both small and large group formats, the teens and tweens spend the evening playing games, debating, acting, and crafting. Through reflection, peer-to-peer activities, and the significance of being pre-and-post B’nai Mitzvah “young adults” the Middle School Program centers Jewish history, the Tanakh, and the day-to-day relevance of Judaism. *Pizza dinner provided by Kavana.

  Join us for Kavana’s Shabbat Levavi (meaning open-armed, warm, heartfelt). This is an opportunity for the Kavana community to gather on a Shabbat morning (in addition to our monthly Shabbat Minyan); the service is lay-led, rooted in tradition with space for creativity, and features a Torah study and discussion in place of a Torah reading. The service is followed by kiddish and a light vegetarian potluck. We hope you’ll come and enjoy this warm and heartfelt time together.   Join with community for togetherness and soul-lifting song and prayer as we welcome in the magic of Shabbat. In this 75-minute service, led by Kohenet Traci Marx (she/they) and our amazing band of musicians, we sing and pray our way through key elements of Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv (the evening service), using traditional and new ways of engaging with the prayers. Music and poetry/guided meditation from diverse voices along with our own reflections support the deepening and elevating of our personal and collective prayers. This service aims to be feminist, inclusive, accessible, and counter-oppressive. Song sheets will be available.

  No matter what is happening in your inner and outer world, you are welcome here. We know how much is happening in many of our lives as well as in our world and we acknowledge the range of experiences with which people are showing up. We offer a space, anchored in love, that aims to have many access points to joy, connection, and witness. 
  

  Join us at 6:30pm for a Schmooze and nosh (hang out and snack!) before the service begins promptly at 7:00pm.

  Join us for Purim! We'll read "the whole megillah" and enjoy potluck snacks and drinks from the bar! Come in costume (or not!) and take in the festive spirit of the day. All ages are welcome.

  Join with community for togetherness and soul-lifting song and prayer as we welcome in the magic of Shabbat. In this 75-minute service, led by Kohenet Traci Marx (she/they) and our amazing band of musicians, we sing and pray our way through key elements of Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv (the evening service), using traditional and new ways of engaging with the prayers. Music and poetry/guided meditation from diverse voices along with our own reflections support the deepening and elevating of our personal and collective prayers. This service aims to be feminist, inclusive, accessible, and counter-oppressive. Song sheets will be available.

  No matter what is happening in your inner and outer world, you are welcome here. We know how much is happening in many of our lives as well as in our world and we acknowledge the range of experiences with which people are showing up. We offer a space, anchored in love, that aims to have many access points to joy, connection, and witness.

This is an opportunity for the Kavana community to gather on a Shabbat morning (in addition to our monthly Shabbat Minyan); the service is lay-led, rooted in tradition with space for creativity, and features a Torah study and discussion in place of a Torah reading. The service is followed by kiddish and a light vegetarian potluck. We hope you’ll come and enjoy this warm and heartfelt time together. • B'nai Mitzvah Cohort (2025-2026)

  Program:

  On top of Kavana’s highly personalized process, our B’nai Mitzvah Cohort is a program designed to bring each year’s B’nai Mitzvah students and their parents into community with one another through regularly scheduled, facilitated gatherings. 

  The framework for our cohort is based on a teaching from Pirke Avot 1:2 (a section of the Mishnah called “Ethics of the Ancestors”) which reads: “Al shlosha devarim ha’olam omed: al ha-torah, v’al ha-avodah, v’al gemilut chasadim.” “The world stands upon these three things: upon Torah (learning), and upon prayer, and upon deeds of kindness.” These programs are scheduled approximately as follows:

  • Session 1 - Fall - Welcoming the new cohort and saying farewell to the old one
  • Session 2 - Late Fall - Torah: Dvar Torah How-to Session: Text Exploration & Writing Workshop 
  • Session 3 - Winter - Avodah: Shabbat service led by teens from previous B’nai Mitzvah cohorts
  • Session 4 - Spring - Gemilut Chasadim: Mitzvah/Service Project with a partner organization

  At Kavana, it is our hope that the B’nai Mitzvah process will serve as a meaningful entry point into an engaged adult Jewish life. Each and every student’s ceremony and celebration at Kavana is uniquely their own, and the B’nai Mitzvah Cohort connects our families through shared joy, learning, and the key themes within this lifecycle milestone.

  Registration How To:

  All youth participants must be registered individually. If you're registering more than one child, please fill out separate registration forms for each.

  Payment Options:
  Non-Partner tuition: $3600

  Kavana Partner contribution: $1200

  *Please note that the price listed in this registration is for payment by check. A 3% processing fee will be added if you choose to pay by credit card. 

  While there are a lot of costs associated with running this program, we never want tuition fees to be a barrier to participation. If you would like to set up installments or are unable to pay the full cost of registration, please contact us and we can come up with a plan.
