Special Edition Living Room Learning - Learn about the Quran!

  • Kavana H.Q.

We have reached capacity for this event.

Over the course of this year, members of the Kavana community have expressed interest in learning more about Islam... some from the angle of social justice (coalition building, interfaith partnerships, etc.) and others from the angle of text comparison (for example, we tell a story about the binding of Isaac and Muslims tell a similar story about the binding of Ishmael).

Given this bubbling up of interest from our community, we've invited UW Professor Hamza Zafer (who teaches Early Islam and whose research focuses on the Quran's polemical engagements with Jewish communities in Arabia) to lead a seminar-style workshop about the Quran for our Jewish community.  We'll look at primary texts together from the Quran, focusing particularly on the Quran's heavy reliance on biblical narrative.  Participants will receive a text packet with suggestions for follow-up study as well.

Light refreshments will be served.
